wada trilogy
Production #7, A Trilogy - One story, three plays
Written By: Mahesh Elkunchwar (Marathi Original)
Chirebandi Wade (ಚಿರೇಬಂದಿ ವಾಡೆ)
Chirebandi Wade is the first part of the famous Marathi Wada trilogy written by Mahesh Elkunchwar. Chirebandi Wade captures the gradual decline of the joint family structure in India and of the social changes in the world beyond. It’s a social play that brings into focus on the clash between the traditional and the commercial or consumer culture in modern Indian society. The play is centered around a joint family in a village in Vidarbha. With the head of the household passing away, the story tests the very essence of the family values. This story is skillfully written by the playwright more than three decades ago but remains relevant even today.

koLa (ಕೊಳ)
Kola is the second part in the Wada trilogy, set in rural Vidharbha. The play takes you 10 years forward to where Chirebandi Wade ended. The next generation children are the heads of the household now. It talks about relationships, aspirations, joys, sorrows, anger, insecurity and many other human emotions which an individual from any place can easily relate to. The play constantly reminds the audience of the randomness of life and the inevitable, and random, tragedies that await you.

Yuganta (ಯುಗಾಂತ)
Yuganta culminates the Wada family story with closure to some questions under the shadow of elders and their ways of life. It begins a new face of life with internal and external struggles and bravery in the face of despair.
